The Belmont Stakes, the final jewel of the Triple Crown, is just days away from its post-position draw, which will set the stage for the iconic race on June 6. This year, the event takes place at the historic Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York, as massive redevelopment continues at Belmont Park on Long Island.
The 1 ¼ mile race will boast a field of up to 14 of the world’s most talented three-year-old Thoroughbreds. Among them is Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo, who captured the nation’s attention with a commanding performance at Churchill Downs. After opting to skip the Preakness Stakes for additional rest and focused training in Kentucky, Golden Tempo is scheduled to arrive in New York early next week, fully refreshed and ready to pursue the elusive final jewel of the Triple Crown.
One notable absence from this year’s Belmont Stakes is Preakness winner Napoleon Solo. Rather than pursuing the final leg of the Triple Crown, Napoleon Solo’s connections, owner Al Gold of Gold Square LLC and trainer Chad Summers, have opted to give their star colt additional rest and focus on the upcoming Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park in July.
Here’s how fans can tune in to the post-position draw for the Belmont Stakes on June 1, broadcast live from Saratoga.
