What should UNC do if the SEC breaks off from the NCAA?

Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger reported on Friday that the SEC is considering breaking off from the NCAA and operating as its own entity if the conference isn’t satisfied with legislative action to regulate the college sports landscape.

Dellenger writes:

“Plan B,” as some have referred to it, is a self-governance model in which the conference would establish its own rules, enforce those rules and even compete against only itself. League officials believe the strategy, as it applies to a smaller subset of programs, may avoid many legal challenges that crippled the NCAA’s amateurism rules…However, league leaders prefer a legislative solution and expressed a continued commitment — for now — in working with lawmakers over what they believe would be a sustainable bill.

It goes without saying that this would be an unprecedented move, and I don’t think anyone can say for sure what the long-term outcome would be–other than a fundamental restructuring of the college sports world. It feels likely that it would seal the NCAA’s demise, but it’s not inconceivable that it could blow up in the SEC’s face and leave one of college sports’ most powerful bodies as a shell of its current self. Maybe both of those things would happen to some degree.

Hopefully, UNC leadership is putting together its own plan for what to do if the SEC decides to hit the nuclear button. This is where I want to hear your thoughts: What should UNC’s plan be?
