Is there a trade asset as valuable as Christian Gonzalez on the New England Patriots’ roster?

According to Pro Football Focus’ John Kosko, Gonzalez has the most worth in the trade market as things currently stand.

“He possesses all the traits of an elite cornerback — size, speed and ball production — and at just 23 years old on a rookie contract, he represents a premium asset,” Kosko said of the 23-year-old Gonzalez. “Trading Gonzalez could net a significant return to help address needs along the offensive line or add weapons around Drake Maye. His trajectory makes him a high-value piece for a team looking to fine-tune a championship roster.”

There’s no doubt that Gonzalez moves the needle for the Patriots in their secondary. While he carries immense value as a former Second-Team All-Pro honoree from 2024, Gonzalez has already established himself as one of the best cover corners in the league, making him an attractive player for the Patriots to retain on a contract extension, rather than a trade for equal or greater value.

According to FOX Sports' Henry McKenna, the Patriots had "preliminary conversations" with Gonzalez about a contract extension at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Gonzalez’s age, accomplishments, as well as the rookie deal he’s on that is slated for a club option in 2027, maximize his value over the likes of Patriots teammates Kayshon Boutte, Harold Landry, and Rhamondre Stevenson, to name a few.
