New England Patriots Pro Bowl cornerback Christian Gonzalez was absent from the team's voluntary OTAs on Wednesday as he seeks a contract extension.
Patriots insider Karen Guregian of MassLive.com opined recently that the "assumption" is that Gonzalez is looking for $35 million per year with his new deal "at the very least."
"NBC Football Night in America" analyst and Patriots legend Rodney Harrison warned his former team about the situation with their star defensive back.
"They're playing with fire," Harrison said, per ESPN's Mike Reiss. "This is a young stud corner you drafted."
New England re-worked offensive lineman Mike Onwenu's contract on Friday, clearing cap space for a potential extension for Gonzalez.
The 23-year-old former 17th overall draft pick led the Patriots in solo tackles (54) and was tied for second in passes defended (10) during the 2025 regular season while recording five passes defended, one interception, one forced fumble and 1.0 sack across three playoff games as well.
