AUBURN — George Lamons Jr. wasn't like most of the recruits at Auburn football's Big Cat Weekend on Saturday, May 16 at Woltosz Football Performance Center because he'd already announced his commitment to the Tigers.
After Auburn's A-Day spring game on April 18, Lamons, a 2027 four-star recruit according to 247 Sports Composite Rankings, announced his commitment to the Tigers.
So what was the purpose of him attending Big Cat Weekend?

"I came out of today trying to score a new relationship. Trying to meet brand new people and help build this class," Lamons said.
Football is what brought Lamons to Auburn, but building the relationship with tight ends coach Larry Scott is everything to Lamons. An event like Big Cat Weekend gave the four-star player from Quitman, Ga., an opportunity to make relationships the main focus.
In his last two high school seasons, Lamons has caught 92 passes for 1,679 receiving yards and 23 touchdown receptions. The 6-foot-3, 213 pound tight end fits the vision of what coach Alex Golesh has for the position at Auburn.
It's things that Lamons has discussed with Golesh before he told the Auburn coach in person that he made his decision to become a Tiger.
"Oh, yeah, I felt like it's important, especially how they want to use me. This is a good position," Lamons said.
