Cancel whatever plans you have, because the NCAA Tournament is officially here. Guess what? Your North Carolina Tar Heels are playing in it.
UNC (24-8, 12-6 ACC), which earned the South Region's 6-seed, will battle the 11-seed VCU Rams at 6:50 p.m. ET on Thursday evening. North Carolina is slightly favored in this matchup, but for the avid March Madness watchers reading this story, favorites mean nothing come March.
The Tar Heels enter their NCAA Tournament run cold, losing their past two games. Duke pulled away for a 76-61 win at Cameron Indoor Stadium, closing the regular season, while Clemson won an 80-79 rematch in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.
Maybe a losing streak is the push UNC needs for a deep run. North Carolina needs a fresh start – and instead of having a target on its back, like the ACC Champion Blue Devils (32-2, 17-1 ACC), North Carolina has a golden chance to prove doubters wrong.
The Tar Heels are no stranger to adversity this season, which gained a dark, gray cloud with Caleb Wilson's season-ending thumb injury. What people outside of Tar Heel Nation may not realize, though, is the amount of talent UNC still has on its roster.
Henri Veesaar is still a top center in the country, while Seth Trimble and Derek Dixon give North Carolina the backcourt it needs for a National Championship run. Guys like Luka Bogavac can score in double-figures, while Zayden High is the backup big man UNC finally discovered.
Can the Tar Heels overcome the A-10 Champion Rams' (24-7, 15-3 A-10) top-ranked defense? If you're planning to watch UNC-VCU on TV, your favorite streaming device, listening on the radio or somewhere else, keep reading below for more broadcast information.

When you look at the country's hottest teams, VCU is right up there. Winning all but three games in 2026, the Rams are – once again – a mid-major power.
North Carolina has the more talented team on paper, but two straight losses have fans questioning an ability to win games. The Tar Heels have a golden opportunity to hit the reset button here, with the hope several wins follow.
This is a tough choice here in Round One, but UNC channels its recent frustration into a close win.
