I formally lodge my strongest appeal to whoever needs to hear it that the P&R forum be reopened in some form or another. We are living through what is the most critical period of American history since the Civil War, and strong discussion and exchange of ideas is crucial beyond description.
Agreed. A community should lean into this, not run away from it because it’s hard.

Not my position at all. I personally hope it’s reopened, but I’m also cognizant of all the arguments against it.
I was talking about two different groups, those that voiced the opinion that the board should take its constituents opinions into account (you) and the others who wanted to shut down the P&R.

It’s interesting as I’ve been a lifelong democrat. But I’m not “proud” of the democrat party. And I don’t understand why anyone wants to “own” the other party. It’s like the dumbest comment I can think of in politics. Truly intelligent people should see the parties as collections of positions on issues. You choose the one whose balance of issues you support. It could be one major issue that impacts you personally or an avalanche of issues that you support that earns your vote. Personally I wish there was a better way for us to support policy on a policy by policy basis rather than having to essentially vote for individuals who state they are going to vote for an entire slate (whether you support all of them or not and whether they actually do so or not). I sadly feel that politics has become a process of trying to pick the route of least wrong.
I'm not proud of them either. They lean too far left at times, and they don't play hard ball either. They feel the need to always take the moral high ground to their own detriment. It still beats other alternatives by a long shot though.

IDK, people don't drive slow in the passing lane in England. I enjoyed a higher quality of life when I was there.
They do the few times I drove there.

I don't. He qualifies his stories, it's not like he's passing off known-to-be bogus sources as evidence as some do. I don't grant them the same value as I would a well researched and documented story but I find some of them interesting and consistent with what I run into.

As for the conversation you were having, I agree with you to an extent. There's no place for this blanket "you didn't vote for this person therefore you are a whatever". But by the same token, AFAIC bans should be handed out when someone minimizes our opinions by calling it an "echo chamber"or when someone dismisses opinions by yelling TDS. We may not all engage in obvious personal attacks but we contribute to them by trotting out these buzz words.
Amen

So your take is to remove ALL the nonsports boards? The movies, tech, finance, streaming, books, etc?

Where did I say that? This is a thread about P&R, why bring other boards into it? It doesn't logically follow, AFAIC. Movies, TV Shows, Tech isn't P&R and doesn't end or damage friendships and families, ripping apart communities. If you think they do, I guess that's your belief but it's not something common in US culture. There's this common held belief you shouldn't talk politics or religion in polite company for a reason. Do we want to foster a polite and friendly community or a contentious one?

If this were the first time we have had to have deep discussions about P&R, I'd agree. This isn't the first or even the second...

It’s inherent in the topic. In most things there is the easy way and there is the right way. Again, shying away from something that is admittedly more difficult is the easy way out. It’s not the right direction. Not for a community.

I meant more than deep, but I think that was understood. The forum either way is on its very last straw at best. If it does get re-opened, (which I'm personally still leaning against) it won't last long if people's behavior do not change. I seriously doubt it will ever open back up again if it does.

I go back and forth. I've largely stepped away from P&R post-election so I wasn't particularly involved in this recent shutdown. But I've been banned multiple times in the past so I imagine my opinion doesn't matter much. However, being more active on the Suns forum recently reminds me that political differences and discussions tend to drive fans apart who came here with a shared love for AZ sports. It's very difficult to keep feelings and animosity from P&R from spilling into other forums or real life from what I've seen.

I'm sure there are people who absolutely hate me and probably think I hate them from our interactions in P&R, but absent that board we have very similar takes on AZ Sports and engage respectfully on the other forums. I'm sure we would get a long just fine as work colleagues or acquaintances in real life.

The site leadership will do what they think is best, but how many mods has P&R chewed up, and how many posters have been banned or left due to it?

That right there is why I lean against.

Or you could be adults and not do carry overs

There is only one poster whose sports and P&R are equally insulting

Posters that I don’t agree with on politics are for the most part knowledgeable sports posters and while I may not respond to them on P&R, I do on other boards
