Maybe that new ignore feature that @Covert Rain found would be helpful if they do decide to reopen.
What i like about the ignore feature that Covert is discussing ---- I can weed out the 8-10 chronic TDS material that personally just makes my skin crawl.

There are some MAGA bad faith actors from my old party that ruin it for everyone. If we can’t implement a more stringent block feature I vote for closing it permanently.

I'll give you my 2 cents (that's double the value of a penny for my thoughts!).......
I am firmly opposed to permanent closure. MAGA is all about stifling "woke" speech through bully tactics which is what we've seen here in recent times, please don't let them be successful in shuttering the forum.
When folks can behave, P&R is be a great source of news and public commentary. Personally I'd like to see more bans and time outs for consistent bad behavior, but I realize that is a pain in the asp for mods, so totally understand not wanting to deal with that. So other than that, all folks can do is use the ignore feature liberally and wear thick skin I guess.
You fail to recognize that there are bad faith actors in your new party as well.
Two things. I don’t have a new party. Second I am not referring to the insults slung back and forth by both sides. I am talking about the bad faith arguments that a couple posters constantly make to purposefully rile people up. Those are the folks that get repeatedly banned. We all know who they are.
Apparently you don't if you are only blaming one side.
I never denied insults are flung both ways. I never said either side was innocent. However, there are repeat offenders who regularly get banned. That’s who I am referencing. Temporary bans have not changed anything.

I do get that. Folks from both sides (and in the middle) need to chill, myself included at times. A lot of it is responding to personal attacks. One flamethrower leads to a flame tossed response, that leads to another and then another, soon the whole village is burning down.
My ex father in law was a very conservative man who at one time had a high position at the pentagon. He would always say "I may disagree 100% with what you say, but I'll fight for your right to say it". We could use that spirit here.
Agree to disagree used to be a thing.
I am calling out a couple MAGA specifically but not exclusively because an earlier post mentioned those with “TDS” already. A person who historically is one of the worst offenders on the board.
And this type of stuff is ridiculous as well. If you fail to see your part in this problem, then please look into the mirror.
That hasn’t been a real thing at large since the Tea Party started. Don’t get me wrong I wish it was still a thing. Would love to debate solutions and policies like the old days.
I can tell you one thing for sure... If the forum is again re-opened there has to be a curbing on DBJ's posts and thread titles. Every title or discussion is not meant in good faith, it is veiled pot shots at any person who doesnt 100% agree and sets the tone for the entire board.
All it does is incite. Now you can blame my ass for whatever is wrong on this forum but at the end of the day the poor direction of the forum in general is rooted in one person's threads, DBJ.
JF i told you i would lay off and i have ever since i DM'd you on the side. But if anyone thinks its just little old me that is the reason the forum is closed is just masking the obvious--- that the forum is a launching pad for DBJ's hateful rhetoric.
Its been going on for way too long thats my thought on this. Ill continue to lurk and OCCASIONALLY post. The days of me being a lightening rod are over though. Nothing will change until his MO is regulated.

There's plenty of blame to go around 100%. It's a whole stew.
Another aspect i think should be looked at is some flippantly posting a random X or bluesky as a formal cite to backup their opine should be curbed. Nine times out of ten if someone challenges the validity of their source it is immediately met with " you're racist/bigoted/Maga Nazi"
This is such a two way street and I just dont think the one side ever acknowledges this. The p&R forum cannot continue to be an echo chamber for only one type of thought or else it losing all credibility

Agreed. Oh and I think you guys also see the emoji spamming by a few on every post they don’t agree with just to troll even if they don’t post much. I just don’t see how that can be controlled without a robust block feature.
I really like the P&R forum, but it has gotten over the top with insults and it feels like a lot of us including myself are either insulting or one-upping. I don't blame the mods for shutting it down. That said I like that there are times where we can have honest discussions with some that we agree and others that we don't. we don't want to be in a situation where we can't speak out against the authority because I think government in general is not always as partisan as we think and it can be corrupt regardless of who is in power. It isn't one side takes all the blame in my opinion.

I mean the real root cause was making the board "unmoderated" and letting perma banned people back. That was the escalation point that got us to here.
The correct response should be full perma bans for anyone who continues to bring the board down and let the people who want to have conversations within the guidelines do so.

I had this thought last night. No more day bans, week bans, etc. If you break the rules. You're out. Forever.
