Wednesday Seacoast Standout: Marshwood senior reaches boys lax milestone

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Senior Hayden Demeroto scored just one goal for the Marshwood High School boys lacrosse team in its 8-6 Class B win over Windham on Wednesday, May 6 - but it was a special one.

Demeroto's fourth-quarter goal was the 100th in his career, and first-year head coach Adrian Ward immediately called timeout to celebrate the milestone and collect the ball.

"I don't think I've ever seen (Demeroto) grin so much," Ward said. "He was very excited about it. He dodged one defender, had another come at him, got by him and put a lefty into the net."

Demeroto's goal gave Marshwood a 8-6 lead with just over 3 minutes left in regulation.

"He knew he was at 99 (career goals), he just wanted me to wait a little bit," Ward laughed. "I told him he was holding out on me."
