It took an extra period, but USA's 45-year Olympic men's hockey gold medal drought is over. Jack Hughes delivered the winning goal in overtime to beat Canada in a thrilling gold medal game Sunday morning.
Hughes scored the goal 1:41 into overtime on a Zach Werenski assist on a 3-on-1 breakaway for the U.S. The shot broke a 1-1 tie that held since Canada scored in the second period, and it delivered the United States its first gold medal since the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" in Lake Placid, New York.
Hughes' teammates immediately swarmed him after it hit the back of the net.
