The Las Cruces Sun-News will run a poll from June 17 through the end of the month for readers to vote on the best Las Cruces-area girls high school athlete from the 2025-26 season.

There are 25 nominees from Las Cruces, Mayfield, Organ Mountain, Centennial and Gadsden across volleyball, soccer, basketball, track and field, cross country, softball, swimming, wrestling, tennis, powerlifting and golf.

Each nominee met at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Be honored with an award in a Sun-News Super Team, such as MVP, Offensive Player of the Year or Defensive Player of the Year, among others.
  • Win a state championship.
  • Be honored with an accolade in her sport's All-District team, such as District Player of the Year.
  • Have an outstanding performance at a state championship event.

There are no restrictions, so vote now and often. The poll is located directly below this sentence and will be open until 11:59 p.m. at the end of June.

Addison Massey, Las Cruces volleyball

Massey won a 5A state championship and was named the District 3-5A Player of the Year and the Sun-News' MVP for volleyball.

Caleigh Garcia, Las Cruces volleyball

Garcia won a 5A state championship and was named to the All-District 3-5A Team.

Sydney Pipkin, Las Cruces volleyball

Pipkin won a 5A state championship and was named to the All-District 3-5A Team.

Ava Price, Las Cruces volleyball

Price won a 5A state championship and was named to the All-District 3-5A Team.

Raylene Carillo, Las Cruces soccer

Carillo was awarded the Golden Ball by the Sun-News and was named District 3-5A Co-Player of the Year.

Ariyah Vazquez, Organ Mountain soccer

Vazquez was named District 3-5A Co-Player of the Year.

Ceanna McKines, Mayfield basketball

McKines was named District 3-5A Player of the Year and the Sun-News' MVP for basketball.

Selena Castro, Gadsden basketball

The Sun-News named Castro as the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in basketball.

Bella Walter, Centennial basketball

The Sun-News named Walter as the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in basketball.

Sofia Herrera, Las Cruces basketball and track and field

The Sun-News named Herrera as the Defensive Player of the Year in basketball, and she was also a 5A state champion in the javelin throw.

Melanie Gaytan, Gadsden track and field

Gaytan finished second in the 5A long jump event at the state track meet.

Ashley Galaz, Organ Mountain cross country

Galaz was the Knights' highest finisher at every event and won four races, including the District 3-5A meet.

Jayleen Ponce, Mayfield softball

Ponce won a 5A state championship and was selected to the All-District 3-5A team.

Ausaundra Roberto, Mayfield softball

Roberto won a 5A state championship and was selected to the All-District 3-5A team.

Natalie Menchaca, Organ Mountain softball

Menchaca was selected to the All-District 3-5A team and was listed as one of the top softball players in the area by the Sun-News alongside Ponce.

Dara Ayala, Centennial swimming

Ayala won a 5A state championship in the 50-yard freestyle.

Autiana Caro, Las Cruces wrestling

Caro won a 5A state title in the 115-pound weight class.

Paige Jorge, Centennial wrestling

Jorge finished second in the 170-pound weight class at the 5A state event.

Savannah Reiman, Organ Mountain tennis

Reiman won back-to-back 5A singles state championships.

Aliyah Salas, Centennial powerlifting

Salas won a 5A state championship in the 198-pound weight class.

Eleanor Warden, Organ Mountain golf

Warden was a part of the Organ Mountain team that won a 5A state championship. She finished second as an individual.

Sofia Torrez, Organ Mountain golf

Torrez was a part of the Organ Mountain team that won a 5A state championship. She finished tied for third as an individual.

Alyssa Serna, Organ Mountain golf

Serna was a part of the Organ Mountain team that won a 5A state championship. She finished fifth as an individual.

Gabriella DiBiaso, Organ Mountain golf

DiBiaso was a part of the Organ Mountain team that won a 5A state championship.

Joselyn Meraz, Organ Mountain golf

Meraz was a part of the Organ Mountain team that won a 5A state championship.
