TOPEKA — Spring sports are winding to a close. Shawnee County athletes have provided some big moments for their teams in the previous few weeks.
It's now time to vote for the Envista Federal Credit Union's athlete of the week for May 11-16. Voting closes at noon on Friday. Here are the nominees.

It was a clutch hit for Acosta in Topeka High’s rivalry clash against Topeka West on Friday, May 15. Acosta nailed a hit to centerfield, which scored the game-winning run. Acosta’s walk-off hit helped Topeka High win 6-7. It also helped the Trojans sweep Topeka West in a doubleheader for the final home game of the season.
The senior put together one of his best performances of the season on Tuesday, May 12. Cleverdon shot a round of 73 at Emporia Golf Course in the Flint Hills League Championship. His round won the conference title by four shots. Cleverdon’s performance helped the Lions win the team title by 34 strokes, too.
Rossville was trailing 4-0 to St. Marys early in the first round of the regional tournament on Thursday, May 14. McDonnell gave the Bulldawgs all of the momentum with a big two-run homer in the third inning. McDonnell finished with three hits and five RBIs in the team’s 14-4 comeback win.
The senior continues to shine when it matters most. The Johnson County Community College commit led Washburn Rural to a 4-1 week with a two-game sweep over Seaman along with wins over Manhattan and Mill Valley. Against Seaman, Rapp went 8-for-10 with six RBIs across the two games to help the Junior Blues’ offense.
The Eagles needed a hero to keep their season alive on Wednesday, May 13. Trailing 4-3 in the final inning, Womack drilled a towering walk-off home run to defeat Perry-Lecompton 5-4 in the first round of the regional tournament. It was Womack’s sixth home run in the last seven Silver Lake games.
