Here are The Arizona Republic's picks for the top 10 high school boys track and field athletes from the third week of the 2026 season, March 9-14. Vote in our poll for the athlete you think had the best week. The poll closes on Thursday, March 19, at 6 p.m. Print readers can find the poll online at azcentral.com/sports/high-schools.

Top Arizona boys track and field athletes


1. Trey Smith, Gilbert Williams Field, sprints, Jr.

In a highly competitive race, he won the 100 meters at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13 in 10.52 seconds to set the state lead.

2. Reyden Stewart, Waddell ALA West Foothills, throws, Jr.

He won the shot put at the Phoenix Christian Small School Invitational on March 12 with a massive personal best throw of 57 feet, 10 inches to set the state lead.

3. Kadyn Hysong, Phoenix Shadow Mountain, jumps, So.

He won the pole vault at Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep’s home meet on March 11, clearing 16-8 to set the state lead and move up to No. 5 in the United States.

4. Zarian Rodriguez, Chandler Hamilton, distance, Sr.

Finishing up his indoor season, he ran 4:11.86 in the mile at New Balance Indoor Nationals on March 15. That’s the fastest time this year in the state for both indoors and outdoors.

5. Jett Merrill, Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge, hurdles, Jr.

He won the 110-meter hurdles at the Nighthawk Early Bird Invitational on March 12, running 14.00 to set the state lead.

6. Ajani Leggett, Phoenix Sunnyslope, sprints/jumps, Sr.

He ran 48.31 to win the 400 at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13, setting the state lead. He also hit 22-7 to win the long jump, moving up to No. 3 in the state.

7. Logan Lute, Chandler Basha, throws, Sr.

He won the javelin at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13, throwing 183-4 to move up to No. 2 in the state.

8. Robert Barker, Chandler, sprints, Jr.

He ran 10.62 to finish second in the 100 at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13, moving up to No. 2 in the state.

9. Mason Aughe, Chandler Basha, throws, Sr.

He won the shot put at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13, throwing 57-4.5 to slide into the No. 2 spot in the state.

10. Brigham Burnham, Gilbert Campo Verde, jumps, Sr.

He continues to show that he’s more than just a hurdler, picking up another win in the long jump (23-2.25) at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13 to move up to No. 2 in the state.

11. Christian Hinton, Chandler Hamilton, sprints, Jr.

He came in second in the 400 at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13, running 48.48 to move up to No. 2 in the state.

12. Brody Heussner, Gilbert Highland, sprints, Sr.

He came in second in the 200 at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13, running a personal best of 21.96 to move up to No. 2 in the state.

13. Tanner Bice, Phoenix Brophy Prep, jumps, Sr.

He reset the school record in the triple jump at the Brophy Devon Allen Invitational on March 13, hitting 45-3 to finish second and move up to No. 7 in the state. He also finished second in the high jump, clearing 6-5 to move up to No. 3 in the state.

14. Crew Comish, Mesa Red Mountain, distance, Jr.

He won the 800 at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13, running 1:54.03 to move up to No. 3 in the state, and he won the 1,600, running 4:19.09 to also move up to No. 3 in the state.

15. Ryder Hall, Snowflake, jumps, Sr.

He won the triple jump at Red Mountain Rampage on March 13, hitting 47-2 to move up to No. 2 in the state.
