Von Miller is returning home. The Dallas Cowboys officially signed the eight-time Pro Bowl pass rusher to a one-year deal Sunday night.
Miller grew up in DeSoto and played at Texas A&M. He arrives after a productive 2025 NFL season with Washington, where he played all 17 games and recorded nine sacks.
Miller made his message clear after the deal. He posted on X, writing, “Dallas! Let’s make this one Special! ”
The move gives Dallas another experienced option for a pass-rush group that has undergone major changes. ESPN reporter Todd Archer noted, “Miller had nine sacks last season in Washington.”
Archer added that Miller joins Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezieruaku, Malachi Lawrence, James Houston, Marist Liufau and Sam Williams.

Skip Bayless called the signing a “good move,” citing Miller’s nine sacks, Dallas roots and “championship wisdom/stature.”
“YES, SIR! Good move for the Cowboys to sign Von Miller,” Bayless said. “… We had him on Gridiron at the SBowl. Fun to be around. Welcome home, Von.”

The Cowboys needed more defensive production after allowing 511 points in 2025, the most in the NFL.
Dallas has responded by adding talent across the unit. The Cowboys recently extended defensive tackle Quinnen Williams on a three-year, $105.9 million deal.
Miller fits that plan as a veteran rotational rusher. His recent production suggests he can still create pressure when used selectively.
He played 36.9% of Washington’s defensive snaps last season but still produced nine sacks and 15 quarterback hits. From a roster-building perspective, that role makes sense.
Dallas can use Miller in passing situations while younger players handle more snaps and develop around him.

Miller now has a chance to add production and leadership while chasing another deep playoff run with the Cowboys. For Dallas, the key will be keeping him effective throughout the season. That is a reasonable fit for Dallas now.
The Cowboys do not need his younger version. They need timely pressure, reliable snaps and veteran guidance in important games.
