Virginia Tech (21-8, 11-6 ACC) erased a first-half deficit and pulled away after the break to defeat Georgia Tech (12-16, 7-9 ACC), 62-51, on Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies wrapped up their home schedule with a 14-4 mark, their highest home win total since the 2023-24 season.

Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech traded punches early before the Yellow Jackets capitalized at the free-throw line to build an 11-6 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Hokies answered with transition opportunities, trimming the deficit to one after a basket from Samyha Suffren. A late three-pointer from Carleigh Wenzel cut the margin to 19-15 by the end of the first period.

In the second quarter, Virginia Tech continued to respond to every surge. Mel Daley connected on a pull-up jumper to keep the Hokies within two at 25-23. Georgia Tech stretched its lead to six with just over three minutes left in the half, but the Hokies closed strong with a 5-0 run to head into the locker room trailing by just one, 32-31.

Georgia Tech applied pressure early in the third, but Anyia Trent scored inside to keep the game tight. Suffren then converted four consecutive free throws to give Virginia Tech a 39-38 advantage late in the quarter. Wenzel added a pull-up jumper at the buzzer to send the Hokies into the fourth with a 43-40 lead.

Virginia Tech seized control in the final period, opening with a 12-0 run to extend the advantage to 55-40. During the surge, Mackenzie Nelson and Wenzel each knocked down key three-pointers. Georgia Tech answered with seven straight points, but the Hokies steadied themselves at the free-throw line down the stretch to close out the 62-51 victory.
