He was definitely a generational athlete but he never found it as a passer. Lamar did.
Was he a generational athlete? He had great wheels and a very good arm, but when I think generational talent I think it’s someone who has EVERYTHING… speed, arm and size. That’s what makes them generational. They’re total packages.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Kurt run the 2 minute drills in Matt's rookie year and he looked so good?

No. Matt’s rookie year was with DG, where Kurt was the starter but was still a turnover machine and eventually got benched. It was Leinart’s 2nd year (Wiz’s first year) where Kurt started platooning with Leinart (who looked okay that season) but then Kurt became the full time starter when Leinart separated his shoulder and Kurt started lighting up the scoreboard but still had a lot of turnovers.

Then year 3 for Matt, it was the full blown camp competition and Leinart fell flat on his face, Kurt took over full time and then led us to the Super Bowl and back to back playoffs.

I’m curious.

This was before my time here.

How long did it take for this board to stop talking about Leinart after his exit?

Plummer is the better comp. The big Jake stans lamented him leaving the same way the few remaining Kyler ones do, but I don’t remember his detractors being as obsessed as Kyler’s currently are.

But it was probably close.

Almost immediately. Same went for Rosen as well. The Cardinals recent history had FA QB sign here. Plummer was the first drafted Qb to do anything since coming to the Valley. Lienart broke his collarbone and that was all she wrote. Sean King was bleh. Logan Thomas stunk. Rosen stunk. No thread for either of them after they left.

Kyler is the ONLY player to have a watch thread when he left Az because he wad the longest tenured home-grown qb. No one has divided a franchise like lil Kyler.

Plummer absolutely divided the franchise and especially this board just like Kyler did.

The Heisman win is more of a curse than something that looks great on a QB resume. Only two QBs in the history of the league have won the Heisman trophy in college and have gone on to win a Super Bowl as a pro.

Thanks, I could not find anything about it online and thought I might have made it up.

Leinart suffered a fractured left collarbone, not just some separation. He had three season-ending injuries while with the Cardinals. It's not a big surprise that he never equaled his potential.

I almost forgot we actually drafted “Hot Tub Matt”.

I personally thought we hit the jackpot with his selection, imagine that!

Vince Marotta and Dan Bickley were cracking up at Herm's words this morning. Herm sure knows how to drop gems.

"Hey, Herm, tell me you haven't watched Kyler much without telling me you haven't watched Kyler much..."

Herm Edwards on Kyler:

“When you think about their offense, [Jordan] Addison, [Justin] Jefferson, [T.J.] Hockenson, [Aaron] Jones, they have some outstanding skilled players,” Edwards said on the Aug. 15 edition of “SportsCenter.” “They just need a quarterback not to do too much. Just run the offense.

“Kyler Murray [has to realize], you know what? All I got to do is run the offense. I don’t have to run around. Just sit in the pocket, get the ball out of your hand. So, this is going to be kind of fun to watch this competition.”

So, yeah, just be a pocket QB. :D

He'll be fine because they actually have a good oline.

Something he never had here.

Keep telling yourself that. He had plenty of time, wouldn't see his receiver, and scrambled, before dumping off short passes or ending up in a fetal position far too many times here.

Herm is crazy if he thinks Kyler is just going to sit in the pocket and distribute the ball to skilled players. We had very skilled offensive players here.
