James Franklin and the Virginia Tech Hokies continue to build one of college football’s most impressive 2027 recruiting classes. On Friday, the Hokies landed another when three-star cornerback Turmarian Moreland committed to Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Moreland is listed as an athlete, but he’s expected to play safety in college. Moreland plays high school football at Palm Beach Lakes in West Palm Beach, Florida. He picked the Hokies over Auburn, which is ironic since edge Rion Jackson picked the Tigers over the Hokies earlier this week. The Georgia Bulldogs were also a finalist in Moreland’s recruitment, so this is another big win for Franklin and Virginia Tech.
Moreland played wide receiver and defensive back last season. He is the second safety in Virginia Tech’s 2027 class thus far, joining Elijah Butler (Baltimore).
Why the Hokies?
“It just felt like home when I went on my official visit, and our trust with coach Franklin and what he’s building over there,” Moreland told Zach Blostein of 247Sports.
Moreland is the 24th commitment in VT’s 2027 class, which 247Sports now ranks as the No. 7 overall class nationally. And the Hokies aren’t done. Tech is in the thick of things with several other recruits, including the No. 1 player in Virginia, edge Chris Whitehead.
