Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams lost another assistant coach this offseason when the Arizona Cardinals named Mike LaFleur their head coach on Sunday. LaFleur had been the Rams' offensive coordinator for three years before this opportunity in Arizona, a major step in his career – and following in the footsteps of his brother, Matt, who was also a Rams OC before being named a head coach.

McVay's coaching tree is quickly growing into its own forest after just nine seasons as the Rams' head coach. The Rams have been a pipeline for coaches, with LaFleur being the fourth offensive coordinator to become a head coach. Note: McVay has only had four offensive coordinators, so they're 4-for-4.

Here's an updated look at McVay's coaching tree after the Cardinals hired LaFleur.

Matt LaFleur: Packers head coach (2019-present)

Rams offensive coordinator (2017)

LaFleur was one of the original hires by McVay in 2017 when he was named the Rams' head coach. He made LaFleur his very first offensive coordinator, bringing him over from Washington to Los Angeles. LaFleur spent just one season with the Rams before becoming the Titans' OC in 2018 and then the Packers' head coach in 2019.

Head coaching record: 76-40-1

Zac Taylor: Bengals head coach (2019-present)

Rams assistant WRs coach (2017) and QBs coach (2018)

Taylor skipped the step of being an offensive coordinator, going straight from Rams QBs coach to Bengals head coach in 2019. Like LaFleur, Taylor was on McVay's original staff in Los Angeles, starting out as an assistant WRs coach before being named QBs coach in 2018.

Head coaching record: 52-63-1

Brandon Staley: Former Chargers head coach (2021-2023)

Rams defensive coordinator (2020)

Staley's rise to head coach was a rapid one. He was the Bears and Broncos' outside linebackers coach before McVay brought him to Los Angeles as his defensive coordinator in 2020. He spent just one year with the Rams before the Chargers took a shot on him, hiring Staley as their head coach in 2021. Like his time with the Rams, his tenure as the Chargers' head coach was brief. Since being fired in 2023, Staley has been the 49ers' assistant head coach and is currently the Saints' defensive coordinator.

Head coaching record: 24-24

Kevin O’Connell: Vikings head coach (2022-present)

Rams offensive coordinator (2020-2021)

O'Connell arrived in Los Angeles in 2020 as McVay's offensive coordinator, the same here Staley was hired. He remained on the Rams' staff for two years before the Vikings hired him as their head coach in 2022, a job he currently holds. He has an impressive 43-25 record in Minnesota.

Head coaching record: 43-25

Raheem Morris: Falcons head coach (2024-2025)

Rams defensive coordinator (2021-2023)

Morris had been a head coach before his time with the Rams, getting an opportunity with the Buccaneers early in his career. And he was also the Falcons' interim head coach to end 2023, so he had experience prior to his Rams stint. However, after being the defensive coordiantor for three years, he finally got another head coaching opportunity in Atlanta in 2024. He went 8-9 in each of his two seasons before being fired this offseason.

Head coaching record: 37-56 overall, 16-18 with Falcons in 2024-2025

Liam Coen: Jaguars head coach (2025-present)

Rams assistant WRs coach (2018-2019), assistant QBs coach (2020) and offensive coordinator (2022)

Coen bounced around before becoming a head coach with the Jaguars last year. He had a two-year stint as the Rams' assistant WRs coach, was promoted to assistant QBs coach, spent a year as Kentucky's OC and QBs coach, returned to the Rams in 2022 and then went back to Kentucky in 2023. The Buccaneers made him their offensive coordinator in 2024 and then the Jaguars hired him as their head coach last year.

Head coaching record: 13-4

Mike LaFleur: Cardinals head coach (2026-present

Rams offensive coordinator (2023-2025)

LaFleur is the latest assistant to become an NFL head coach after a stop with the Rams. He was the team's offensive coordinator from 2023-2025, replacing Coen after he left for Kentucky. Prior to his time with the Rams, he was the Jets' offensive coordinator and called plays, but that perior in New York wasn't exactly fruitful. He's now the Cardinals' head coach, his first opportunity to hold that title in the NFL.

Head coaching record: 0-0

Thomas Brown: Bears interim head coach (2024)

Rams RBs coach (2020) and assistant head coach (2021-2022)

Brown left the Rams in 2023 to become the Panthers' offensive coordinator after being an assistant for three years in Los Angeles. When Frank Reich was fired, Brown left to become the Bears' pass game coordinator. From there, he replaced Shane Waldron as the OC mid-season and then was named interim head coach to finish 2024 after Matt Eberflus was fired. He's now he pass game coordinator for the Patriots.

Head coaching record: 1-4
