UNC is currently the favorite for 2027 top recruit CJ Rosser

Michael Malone has made it very clear that he thinks he can recruit with the best in the industry despite this being his first rodeo in the college ranks. One of the biggest questions about him since he took the head coach job for UNC was whether or not he would be able to do all the things that are expected as college coaches, and it’s looking good so far. We are hearing that the Tar Heels are the current favorites to land the best player in the 2027 class, CJ Rosser. It’s still pretty early for anything to be written in ink, but the signs that things are going in the right direction are all there.

Rosser took his second unofficial visit to Chapel Hill this past Wednesday, which was reported by 247Sports. During the visit he got to suit up in Carolina gear and take some pictures in front of the wall of Jordans.

Rosser’s recruitment began back in 2025 with Hubert Davis. He was offered a scholarship on March 1st of that year, and he took his first unofficial visit in December. Despite the head coaching change, Rosser’s interest in the Tar Heels hasn’t waned, and it’s very possible that it only grew once Michael Malone was hired. It’s fair to say that things would’ve gotten dicey with him given how things played out this past season, but then again, what Davis got out of Caleb Wilson could’ve been enough to keep him in the fold. Regardless, we do know that Rosser’s interest in UNC is really high, and Malone’s staff should feel good about their current position.

As for when we will hear more about what he plans to do, Rosser plans to narrow down his list in August. Other schools that he holds scholarship offers from are Kentucky, NC State, Duke, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville, Kansas, and the list goes on. The Wildcats are the other school that has Rosser’s interest, but what will be interesting is whether or not the warmth of Mark Pope’s seat will play a role in what happens on that side of the fence. Time will tell.

As of right now the Tar Heels do not have a commit for 2027, but Malone’s been after a majority of the top 10 prospects. If he could pull off landing Rosser alone, it will be one of the biggest commitments that UNC has had in quite a while. If he lands one of the other top 10 players to join him, it could be the best class in over a decade. The vibes continue to be good in Chapel Hill, but for now we will continue to play the waiting game to see if the results will be just as good.
