The Diamond Heels will host a Super Regional for the tenth time in school history when UNC and USC start their series in Chapel Hill. This will be the third year in a row that UNC has made the Super Regionals, and their 13th Super Regional overall. Last year, the Heels jumped all over Arizona in the opening game of their Super Regional matchup, winning 18-2 before losing the two subsequent close games to the Wildcats and being eliminated.

The Heels will start Ryan Lynch in the first game against the Trojans. Lynch tossed a gem in his last outing against VCU in Game 1 of UNC’s region; he threw for seven innings and allowed two hits, no runs and struck out five Rams. USC will counter with LHP Mason Edwards, who had a rocky outing in his last start against Lamar. Edwards pitched for 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks.

USC got here the hard way. The Trojans lost their first game before winning four elimination games in a row (including two against 12th seeded Texas A&M) to advance. They were the last team to punch their ticket to the Supers on Monday night, so here’s hoping that UNC’s additional rest makes a difference.

We’ll have post-game coverage as always; until then, join us in the comments below. Go Heels!
