Weight-cutting has long been a controversial topic in combat sports and Friday's UFC 324 official weigh-ins showed the dark side of dehydration.
Bantamweight Cameron Smotherman made his mark but as he walked away from the scale, he lost consciousness, faceplanting hard on stage. Smotherman was down for several minutes as commission, promotion, and medical workers tended to him. He appeared to faint again and was carried off by staff.
At the time of publication, Smotherman's status is unknown. MMA Junkie has reached out to his representation for an update on his health when it becomes available.
Smotherman was scheduled to fight Ricky Turcios on the preliminary card. While there's been no official announcement, it's doubtful the bout will take place.
