According to a new report from On3's Dushawn London, the University of Connecticut men's basketball team has made an official offer to AJ Williams, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2028.
The 6-foot-8 forward from Eagle Landing's Christian Academy in Georgia also has offers from the likes of Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Auburn, and Florida State. As the rising junior progresses through high school, he's sure to get more offers from even more high-profile schools, creating more competition for Dan Hurley and his staff.
At the end of the day, this is a simple call: Williams is the No. 1 player in the class, and UConn is one of the top programs in the country. Of course the Huskies are going to make an offer and try to work him into the program.
Braylon Mullins is headed into his sophomore year and is likely to turn pro after this season, meaning he won't be in Storrs by the time that Williams could be in 2028-29. Furthermore, current point guard Silas Demary Jr. will be gone, as will point guard Solo Ball, who is set to be done after the 2027-28 campaign.
Of course, UConn has other recruits set to come in, and there will be players brought in from the transfer portal, but much of the roster for 2026-27 will be gone by 2028-29.

After falling short in the national title game against Michigan last season, the Huskies profile to be very good again next season with Mullins and Demary at the helm. Even without Tarris Reed Jr. and Alex Karaban, who were lost to the NBA, the Huskies have depth - especially on the perimeter, but we do have questions about how they'll be able to handle things on the interior.
UConn will certainly be battle tested, as they'll play one of the most difficult non-conference schedules in NCAA history. UConn will play Duke, Kansas, Arizona, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio State in this campaign.
We are just six weeks away from the start of the UConn football season, as the Huskies open up on Sept. 5 against Lafayette. New head coach Jason Candle and his team will meet the media on Thursday for the first time as part of a school-sanctioned media day.
The Huskies are coming off a nine-win season and a trip to the Fenway Bowl.
