Bro what are you on about?

I didn’t say you have to be a captain to be a foundational player. That quote from PFF was probably written by ChatGPT. Even if PJJ is a foundational player (and I assume he is), what of value is being constructed on that foundation?

MCD brought up what an exemplary leader PJJ is. Such a powerful leader and so respected by his teammates he’s yet to be named a team captain. His leadership has had such a measurable impact on the team we got locked into an 1-14 tailspin to end the year.

What is the value of this kind of leadership? The main expression of it I remember was him pulling Gannon off Demercado after the fumble against TN.
OK, fair enough so how many captains are on a team? Six out of 52 on the active roster.? are you saying only those six are able to be leaders then?

He is a FA after this season and the Franchise Tag for a WR next year will just shy of $30 million. He want to be closer to Sophia, his kid and family. If he is not extended, I am willing to bet $5 he gives the 49ers a discount to play close to home.
i'm willing to bet monti lowballs him then pays him

Is that what I said?

The players get the opportunity to highlight their leaders at the end of each training camp. Three years running they haven’t nominated PJJ. This would seem to go against MCD’s assertion that PJJ’s leadership is exceptional or additionally informs his average (at best) onfield performances.

I think the Giants had 10 captains last season. Just present some evidence that PJJ is a great leader if you’re gonna assert it.

Even the article provided was about how PJJ was working to improve his leadership.

Why are people complaining about Parris Johnson? Hes been a very good young LT.

He should 100% be extended. If he's a top 5 paid LT that's just because players make more money when they sign an extension.

I think he'll be a top 5-8 LT moving forward. Hrs exactly the kind of guy you sign to a second contract.

If not for how he was acquired, I don't think people would mind a slight overpay for a solid left tackle.

That trade was revolting in the moment and it's only worse since.

Spilled milk, bro… hindsight is always 2020. PJJ is a good player and I’m glad he’s here. The draft was three+ years ago. Time to move on. Bitching about it year after year serves nothing. We know the franchise sucks we know our GM sucks. I’m just happy he got a good player at this point.
That was the very definition of foresight, many here lamenting the idiotic trade when it happened.

I understand your logic here but why doesn’t the same apply with MHJ? The guy is a complete letdown. Yet 98% of the board was over the moon ecstatic that he was picked and many many experts during the draft year said he was a no-brainer. Many of those posters that were ecstatic now blame the GM saying he should’ve known better. So hindsight is only good when it works in your favor?

It absolutely applies to MHJ. In hindsight, that's a bad pick. I give several posters credit for their foresight on the pick. I don't ding Monti for that one, either.

We’ll I give ya credit then. Because there have been several posters over the last two seasons that have said it’s Monty’s job to know better IE MHJ…..

Because a professional General Manager should be better at identifying talent than a bunch of message board yahoos? That shouldn’t be an otherworldly expectation.

And many people here had huge doubts about MHJ at the time and wanted other players. He wasn’t a consensus choice here.

I mean, granted, he should know better, but how am I as a fan supposed to castigate him when he did exactly what I wanted? Like when Keim traded up for the Rosen one. I wanted it. Caveat emptor lol

See @Stout lol case in point lol

Now that’s some revisionist history. About 98% of this board was all about MHJ. And most experts not just message board yahoos were all in on MHJ and should be the pick. The pick was lauded nationally as well.

Who cares? Monti should be better than online weirdos. Expect better man.

Not 98% of this board; there was a vocal minority who didn’t even think MJH was the best WR prospect.

Dude, “lauded nationally.” Hilarious.

Let's not forget about that trade when it happened and the months before that season. I wanted the pass rusher but, when I saw the details, I was more than intrigued, I was very excited. The only reason that Monti wasn't a hero after that trade is that we are the cardinals and Cardinal things happened.

After that trade, we had Houston's first round pick. Everyone and I mean everyone, said it would be a top 5 pick and could easily have been the number 1 overall pick the next year. Houston was supposed to be one of the 2 worst teams in the NFL. Who could have predicted they would make the playoffs and even win a game? Who could have predicted that Stroud would have his ONLY good year THAT year? I guess we should have, being Cardinal fans.

Think about it, Caleb Wilson went number 1. J Daniels went number 2. D Maye went number 3. We took MHJ at 4. And Joe Alt went number 5. If you pair Paris with any of those guys, it would have been a great draft day trade! Now, do I think Monti has been great? No way. But if we had gotten a top 5 pick back from Houston the way EVERYONE said we were going to, Monti would be praised for this and would have set us up greatly for the next 10 years.

So let's all cool our collective jets when bashing that trade, it was NOT a bad trade when he made it, it was a bad trade because of Cardinal luck.

At what point does what you do with a trade impact whether it was a good trade or not? I am aware of the concept of a good process but bad result outcome, however, this was a first example of Monti devaluing a universally higher valued/scarce position in favor of a lower one. Monti rolled the dice and lost. Gambles do this all the time and when you critique them they make the same comments that it was a good play in the moment.

Marvin is as big of a bust there is. Not the trash heap kind of bust though, sure.

Marvin has been a disappointment for sure. But he is nowhere near being called "as big of a bust there is".

Marvin is currently 4th in reception yards (1493) and second in TDs (12) for his draft class. That is not even close to being considered a draft bust.

Bust prob not but due to hype and draft position he is kind of a fail at this point. And there’s already a video of him dropping easy passes at camp right in his hands. Which has been a consistent problem. And is already injured again.

Definitely a massive disappointment so far with all of the hype he had going into the 2024 draft.
