It took a while, but the Los Angeles Rams have finally reached a deal with first-round draft pick Ty Simpson.
The quarterback out of Alabama became the final first-rounder to sign his rookie deal, reports Nate Atkins of The Athletic.

“The deal is for four years and $25.4 million, fully guaranteed,” Atkins detailed. “It includes a fifth-year option as well as a $14.9 million signing bonus as determined by his No. 13 draft slot.”
The signing came just before the start of training camp on Sunday.
Simpson is currently competing for the backup QB spot with Stetson Bennett, each hoping to be the No. 2 to reigning MVP Matthew Stafford.
Some might consider it odd that the No. 13 overall pick is being stashed, but the Rams have Super Bowl aspirations this season.

A retooled defense, including a trade for elite pass rusher Myles Garrett, creates a devastating complement for a high-powered offense that includes two of the league’s top wideouts.
However, a strong 2026 season doesn’t necessarily bode well for the future.
Stafford will turn 39 years old just before this season’s Super Bowl LXI, which will be played at the Rams’ home of SoFi Stadium.
Given Stafford’s age, the Rams are using this season — and however many more Stafford chooses to play — to get Simpson ready for his time as the Rams’ starter.
So it’s true, Simpson is drawing a large salary as a first-round pick, especially in comparison to Bennett, a fourth-rounder who counts for more than $1.3 million against the salary cap, as opposed to Simpson’s $4.6 million hit.
But locking down a potential quarterback of the future and having him learn from a future Hall of Famer like Stafford is invaluable to the franchise.
Continuity at quarterback is one of the hardest challenges for an NFL team, and with that transition apparently settled, the team can focus on chasing a ring this year.
