The speculation finally came to an end on Monday with the Philadelphia Eagles agreeing to trade star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick.

It was an inevitable agreement that had been teased since the start of the new league year. The expectation was that the Eagles would wait until the June 1 deadline to make the move because it would allow them to avoid a dead cap hit that would have cost the team north of $40 million.

For the Patriots, it was an opportunity to reunite Brown with his former head coach from the Tennessee Titans, Mike Vrabel. It was also a chance to get the team a legitimate No. 1 wide receiving target to play across from Romeo Doubs, one of the Patriots' biggest free agent signings.

On paper, the Patriots now have one of the best wide receiver rooms in the NFL with Brown joining Doubs, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, DeMario Douglas, and Efton Chism III.

Here's how fans reacted to the trade news on social media:

FINALLY AJ Brown is on the move. The #Patriots made the PERFECT trade for their offense. I know Josh McDaniels is happy about this one #NEPatspic.twitter.com/G7ap7BFxOu

I am happy this mess is over. AJ Brown was an awesome Eagle and they don’t win a Super Bowl without him

It is also strange to me how many people are just brushing over him actively quitting on the team and forcing himself out of one of the most desirable spots in the NFL

AJ Brown might go for 1700 yards this year behind a real quarterback.

There will be #Eagles fans that actually celebrate today. The day the Eagles are trading the best WR they’ve had since T.O. An absolute freak. They’ll celebrate getting rid of him.

Those people are morons & should be ignored. Trading AJ Brown doesn’t make you’re offense better

I understand denial. Many Eagles fans did not want to believe that AJ Brown DEMANDED to be traded. It was media created click bait. Now that we know it was real, how do we feel about AJ today?

Me: Thankful for the success, but pissed off that the success wasn’t enough for HIM

If we are being fair, despite how it ended, AJ Brown was one of the most dominant athletes I've ever had the pleasure of watching. When he was at his very best, he was as good as it gets. There's no way this Eagles project was as successful without that trade. He was a complete…

AJ Brown for basically a 2nd rounder im in actual tears

WRs I’d draft over AJ Brown now that he’s a Patriot:

Ja’Marr Chase
Puka Nacua
Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Amon-Ra
Justin Jefferson

That’s it.

The AJ Brown trade was not a good trade for a team in win-now mode. Unfortunately, Howie Roseman did the best with the cards he was dealt because AJ wanted out of Philly so badly.

Jaylen Waddle got more picks than AJ…

Are Eagles fans actually happy about trading AJ Brown?

I can’t imagine being happy about trading away a Top 5 receiver away from my favorite team while he’s still in his prime.

“This probably is now a top 5 passing game…[in terms of] wide receiver corps, I think this pretty easily is a top 5 unit at this point.”
