The Georgia Bulldogs (49-12) are hosting the Athens Super Regional against the Mississippi State Bulldogs (43-17). Georgia has won all four meetings against Mississippi State and hosts the other Bulldogs in a three-game series with a trip to the College World Series on the line.
Georgia's series against Mississippi State starts at 11 a.m. ET from Foley Field on Saturday, June 6. Georgia infielder Tre Phelps will be suspended for the game due to his controversial ejection from the regional final against Liberty.
Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks was not happy about the schedule for the series. "Nothing says 'top remaining seed' like an 11 a.m. Saturday start for Game 1," Brooks said via social media.
Georgia is the top seed left in the NCAA Tournament after No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Georgia Tech both suffered upset defeats in their regionals. The Bulldogs are red hot and have won 17 of their last 18 games including the SEC championship. Georgia and Mississippi State are two of seven SEC teams (NCAA record) in the super regionals.
The winner of the Georgia-Mississippi State series will face the winner of the Texas-Oregon series in the College World Series. Georgia has not made the College World Series since 2008.
