The Georgia Bulldogs took Game 1 of the Athens Super Regional against the Mississippi State Bulldogs13-12 thanks to some clutch hitting that helped UGA overcome a 7-0 deficit. Georgia is one win away from advancing to the College World Series.

Georgia will look to punch its ticket back to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Georgia has not returned to Omaha since 2008.

Georgia won the SEC during the regular season and the SEC Tournament. UGA is 5-0 against Mississippi State this season and will have two chances to beat Mississippi State in order to advance to the College World Series. Georgia is the No. 3 national seed (highest remaining in the field) and Mississippi State is the No. 14 national seed.

The winner of the Athens Super Regional will play against the winner of the Austin Super Regional. The Texas Longhorns are hosting the Austin Super Regional and are playing the Oregon Ducks. Texas is the No. 6 national seed while Oregon is the No. 11 national seed. Texas won Game 1 of the series 11-3 and are one win from advancing to the College World Series.

Georgia did not play Texas or Oregon during the regular season.
