A team that was interested in trading for Jaylen Brown may no longer be in the running after making a move on Monday.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Trail Blazers are trading for Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, sending Jerami Grant and Kris Murray in return.

The Trail Blazers had appeared all offseason to be preparing to trade for a star player, and even on Sunday, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that Portland seemed like the frontrunner to land Brown.

"(The Celtics, per league sources, have been asking for up to four first-round picks; Portland is seen as the frontrunner there)," Amick wrote.

However, now that Portland has traded for Morant, it could signal that they have no desire to trade for Brown. Grant and Murray could have been two players the Trail Blazers would have included in a deal for Brown, but now they are on their way to Memphis.

Portland might not have liked the Celtics' asking price and decided to pursue another star guard instead. Morant isn't close to being the player that Brown is, but he is a two-time All-Star and might need a change of scenery to get his game back on track.
