The Portland Trail Blazers had been perusing the trade market for a star. And while many thought that high-level player would be Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown, the Blazers made a deal for Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant on Monday afternoon.

According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, the Blazers moved Jerami Grant and Kris Murray to Memphis in exchange for Morant, who's a two-time All-Star and was rumored to be headed elsewhere for several months. Portland wasn't mentioned much when it came to possible landing spots for Morant, but his arrival in Oregon could signal the Blazers' declining interest in Brown.

"This was their big move," Charania said live on SportsCenter. "As of right now, my understanding is they’re not involved with Jaylen Brown."

The Blazers' draft capital qualified them as a strong suitor for Brown at one point. And while a future trade is still possible, this latest report from Charania suggests that a second big swing is unlikely.

Shams Charania just said on ESPN that the Blazers may not be pursuing Jaylen Brown following the Ja Morant trade:

Once their deal for Morant becomes official, the Blazers will roster the former Grizzly, veteran guard (and former Celtic) Jrue Holiday, star point guard Damian Lillard, and promising guard Shaedon Sharpe. That plethora of guards could result in another shakeup and it's worth noting that the Celtics and Blazers' front offices have conducted plenty of business together in recent years.

However, the only Celtic confirmed — by Charania — to be involved in trade talks is Brown. There's no clear frontrunner in the sweepstakes for the five-time All-Star and it's not even a guarantee that he leaves Boston.

The longest-tenured Green Teamer will be eligible for a contract extension on July 26 and will turn 30 years old around the start of the 2026-27 NBA season. What color jersey he'll be wearing when October rolls around remains one of the biggest questions of the offseason.
