Kyler is not a bust. He made it to his second contract and lasted 7 years basically unchallenged as a starting NFL QB. Up and down player, lots of potential, lots of flashy plays, too many injuries and maybe didn't put forth max effort according to those around him. Electric player, made fun of by other players and maybe not enough of a leader for what the role really requires.

That's better than average, but not a bust. Disappointing, but not quite a bust. Leinart and Rosen were absolute busts.

Buster Davis
Davis was selected 69th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round in the 2007 NFL draft out of Florida State University.[2] Davis signed a three-year, $1.7 million contract with a $610,000 signing bonus with the Cardinals, but was later released on September 1, 2007.

Lol, never made it out of training camp

Buster Davis, Andre Wadsworth, Tommy Knight - why did you guys have to bring up such terrible memories :biglaugh:

How about Garrison Hearst being drafted, what 3rd overall, holding out, then quickly tearing his ACL? Or Mark Smith with the "I didn't learn nothin' about nothin'" or Simeon with the Armpit of the NFL.

How about that Timm Rosenbach comeback :(

Good times...to forget.

Really depends on how to define a bust.

I do not see Kyler as a bust. It didn't pan out, but I would NOT use the label bust for a player that was in the MVP running for one season and got a massive 2nd contract.

IMO a bust a player that completely failed. I would include players failling due to mental immaturity, but not players that got career ending injuries. Hence I see Boston as a bust, but do not see Wadsworth and Cooper as busts.

Boston had two really good seasons and one so good it garnered him first team All Pro and a PB(when it actually still mattered) how is that a bust?

Jonathan Cooper (7th overall)
Josh Rosen (10th overall)
Wendell Bryant (12th overall)
Levi Brown (5th overall)
Isaiah Simmons (8th overall)
Levi Brown a bust? He didn't live up to the overall Hype/dominance expected but he stayed relatively healthy and gave the Cardinals 6 years and held down LT during the SB run. Not sure if that is a bust. Disappointment maybe.

His first contract was terminated (didn’t see through his rookie deal is a big factor to me). Iirc he was one of the most-penalized linemen in the NFL.

He probably deserves to be below Simmons on this list, but he was the fourth or fifth best OL on that Super Bowl team.

Gemini's answer

1. Matt Leinart (QB) | Round 1, Pick 10 (2006)

Perhaps the most famous bust in franchise history, Leinart was a Heisman winner coming off a legendary career at USC. He was expected to be the franchise savior, but he never adjusted to the speed of the NFL.
  • The Outcome: He was eventually benched for a veteran Kurt Warner, who led the team to its only Super Bowl appearance. Leinart finished his Cardinals career with more interceptions (20) than touchdowns (14).

2. Levi Brown (OT) | Round 1, Pick 5 (2007)

Brown is often cited as the team’s worst pick because of who was still on the board. The Cardinals chose him to stabilize the offensive line, passing on future Hall of Famers Adrian Peterson, Patrick Willis, and Darrelle Revis.
  • The Outcome: Brown struggled immensely with pass protection throughout his tenure, famously allowing 55 sacks and over 300 pressures during his time in Arizona.

3. Josh Rosen (QB) | Round 1, Pick 10 (2018)

The Cardinals traded up to get Rosen, who famously claimed there were "nine mistakes" made ahead of him.
  • The Outcome: After a disastrous 3–13 rookie season where he threw 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, the team took the unprecedented step of drafting Kyler Murray #1 overall the following year and trading Rosen to the Dolphins. He lasted only one season in Arizona.

4. Andre Wadsworth (DE) | Round 1, Pick 3 (1998)

Wadsworth was a physical specimen from Florida State and was expected to be a perennial Pro Bowler.
  • The Outcome: His career was derailed by a long rookie contract holdout followed by chronic knee injuries. He played only 36 games over three seasons, recording just 8 sacks before his NFL career ended prematurely.

5. Jonathan Cooper (OG) | Round 1, Pick 7 (2013)

Cooper was one of the most athletic guard prospects in years, but a broken leg in his first preseason changed the trajectory of his career.

  • The Outcome: He never regained the explosive lateral movement that made him a top-10 pick. He was eventually used as a "throw-in" trade piece to the Patriots in exchange for Chandler Jones.
