Imagine you’re drafting tomorrow in a 12-team PPR league. Who would be the top three bust candidates to fade in the eighth round? The following is based on current average draft positions (ADPs).
Michael Pittman Jr. faces an uphill battle in Pittsburgh -- or maybe it’s three uphill battles. The first is playing alongside D.K. Metcalf, who’s operated as the alpha for most of his career. The second is operating in a run-friendly offense. The third is catching passes thrown by 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers, whose over/under for games played this season is around 14. So much has to go right for Pittman to reach the top 36-40. That’s why his overall-92 / WR41 ADP is too bullish.
Jayden Reed is also a fade with an overall-93 / WR42 ADP. Expect Matthew Golden to step up as the #2 WR behind Christian Watson, and with Tucker Kraft returning, Reed might be the #5 offensive option at best. That’s not a recipe for safe top-40 production.
Why does Kyle Monangai have an overall-96 / RB34 ADP? Because statistically, he was a terrific handcuff and spot starter behind D’Andre Swift. What’s the concern? Few seventh-round running backs build off of strong rookie campaigns, and Monangai showed yellow flags, including an atrocious six drops on 30 targets and a subpar broken-tackle rate. The concern is that we saw him at his best last season.
