Top 15 Kentucky sports moments of 2025-26: No. 13 Alex Ruiz vs WVU

The countdown of the 15 biggest highlights from Kentucky Wildcats sports in the last year continues. We're looking at the moments that made Big Blue Nation stand up and cheer, and we're up to No. 13 on this list.

The Wildcats men's soccer team had a solid 2025 season. They won 10 games, and had some nice wins, though postseason success eluded them. Their biggest win came late in October over the No. 10 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, and it was a thrilling one.

Defense ruled the day, with neither team getting many shots on goal. A 0-0 halftime score carried into the second half, and all the way up to the 72nd minute. Then, Alex Ruiz found himself open for a shot on goal and he made it count, giving the Cats a 1-0 lead.

The score would hold up, and Kentucky would get a top ten victory. It was Ruiz's seventh goal of what was a successful season for him as well a the Wildcats. It was certainly a big moment, and not the soccer team's only entry on this list.
