We are counting down the top 15 highlights from Kentucky Wildcats sports from the 2025-26 season, and are inside the top ten. There were plenty of big moments from the basketball team, and No. 9 comes to us from Brandon Garrison, who is no longer with the team.
The 2025-26 season was a disappointing one for the Wildcats, but they entered the postseason looking to make people forget about what happened during the regular season. The NCAA put them up against a good Santa Clara team in round one, and it would be just as tough a game as analysts expected.
In one of the most dramatic games of the first round, Kentucky beat Santa Clara 89-84, but things could have turned out differently if it weren't for Garrison's defense.
The teams traded buckets to open the overtime period, then Garrison began to assert himself on defense. With Kentucky up by one, he blocked a shot. Then, as the clock ticked under a minute, he got another one, which he converted at the other end for put the Cats up by four. On the very next Santa Clara possession, he blocked a three-point attempt, which led to the points that sealed the win.
That game had another hero, and another moment that fans will remember, but the win may not have happened without Garrison's defensive heroics in overtime. It was his finest moment, and it came on the biggest stage.
