#3 + #65 for #12 + #20?

For a little more context to my lack of interest...I don't believe 12 and 20 give him a ton of value. I don't really care for that are of the draft. Trading back for Ioane or Bain or McCoy or Fano just isn't it for me. At 20, you are left with the same kinda mid. It's a good area for S's and OL but I am not going to take two of those (probably).

Could you argue that a draft that starts with

12 - Vega Ioane - OG
20 - Max Iheanchor / Blake Fisher - OT
34 - Ty Simpson - QB

is a potentially good draft? Yeah, but it also dumping so many assets into one group which seems problematic.

I didn't see you ask. He hasn't shown much good when it comes to drafting.

The Cowboys have made a serious offer to the Jets for the number 2 pick. Personally with so many needs I can’t see the Jets refusing unless they are set on Reese.

Round 2 there are several players I like. Obviously Simpson should be considered. If some of the RTs fall they can be an option. You could do worse than Blake Miller in round 2 IMO. I like some of the edges available. I really like Jacob Rodriguez but the missed tackles are a worry. Lee Hunter is a bit old for a prospect but he is a nice player. IDK if it is too early for Big Citrus but he is also a nice option.

Round 2 has a lot of options.

I think round 3 might have some nice options as well. Sam Hecht could be a very nice stretch zone C. Both Bud Clark and Kyle Louis are solid prospects. Darrell Jackson is a massive NT that should be on the board in 3.

As lackluster as many might feel the options at 3 are, day 2 should be fun to discuss.

Your list is a lot of the guys I'm looking at in Round 2 as well. Would love to draft Bailey and then Miller in Round 2, that would be a killer 1-2 picks.

Part of the reason I want Mauigoa is that I think a lot of the OTs are gone by the 2nd round.

I would love that draft... its not like Monti doesnt have a history of overdrafting a single position in a draft.
...for a team with desperate needs at o line and QB...the talent lines up

There's a simple answer to that: Don't trade down because it's not worth it. In a weak draft, stay at the top and pick the blue chip player.

Hard to interpret that in any other way than that they know who they will pick. It probably slips out to a reporter before the draft.

Seriously. In a draft short on top-end talent, you demand a freaking premium for teams moving up. If there's a guy teams want, and you really want to trade down (the Cards absolutely shouldn't), then that is a good position to be in. You want to move up? Pay more. You don't want to pay more? Then suck on the lack of talent where you're drafting.

I mean can you afford to not draft Orange with an awesome nickname like "Big Citrus". I wouldn't use the #34 overall for him. However he should be there with the #65 overall pick which I wouldn't mind at all. I don't believe that he goes in the 2nd because he is a one dimensional run stuffer. Drafting him would add some depth to the NT position which is needed.

I am considering this thesis a lot more.

I like Mauigoa because I think his floor is high at a position of need, but I'll admit that I don't think he'll be a multi time All Pro. I could see him maybe making a Pro Bowl or two, but I don't think he'll be dominant.

I could see Love becoming an All Pro.

Mine is pretty close if the Cards stay at 3:
1-Bailey (Would be nice to have a potential elite pass rusher opposite of Sweat)
2-Mauigoa (If MLF wants to solidify the run game for the future then I'm fine with this pick)
3-Love (A luxury pick but he could be really special. Would set up whatever young QB that the Cards bring in eventually with some elite weapons)

I'm warming up to Reese too because of his ceiling.

For me:

1-Bailey. Having Bailey and Sweat on the edge would make the defense better markedly.
2-Mauigoa, Reese, or Love. I'm down with any of these three. A solid argument can be made for each one.

Mauigoa is the tomato soup choice: reliable, you know what to expect. Reese is the french onion: some great and when it's great it's amazing, but often bleh. Love is the chicken tortilla: could really suck if the addins aren't up to snuff, but is potentially the best soup of the bunch.
