Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nikola Topić neared a double-double in the G League on Sunday, helping the OKC Blue in a loss against the Motor City Cruise.
Topić finished with 18 points, eight assists, three rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot in the 129-121 loss at the Paycom Center. He went 6-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, in 27 minutes, 7 seconds of action as the starting point guard.
The 20-year-old tallied 11 points in the second half alone after generating paint touches for the group. He featured a good mix of playmaking for his teammates throughout the game, while also keeping the ball and scoring for himself at the rim.
Topić logged his third appearance with the Blue after receiving clearance to play on Feb. 9 following a testicular cancer diagnosis in October. He is now averaging 15.7 points, 6.3 assists, two rebounds and one steal while shooting 58.3% from 3-point range.
The Serbian debuted with the Thunder on Feb. 12, recording two points, one rebound and one assist in 12 minutes, 22 seconds. He is averaging 3.2 points, two assists and 1.6 rebounds on 43.8% shooting from the field in five total games.
After missing over a year and a half because of an ACL injury and cancer, Topić is back playing consistent minutes. He expressed his gratitude last week to the organization, teammates and fans for their support and is grateful to be on the court again.
