Teoscar Hernandez has a new elbow guard this season.

Each time the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger steps to the plate, his forward-facing left arm has a colorful piece of equipment on it.

A closer look reveals the colors make up puzzle pieces.

The practical reason for the elbow guard is to protect Hernandez from an injury on a hit by pitch.

The real reason for the specific look is much more touching.

Why is Teoscar Hernandez wearing colorful elbow guard?

That elbow guard is Hernandez's way of recognizing his son with autism.

This is what Hernandez told AM 570 in Los Angeles:

"I did it for my oldest. He's on the spectrum for autism. This year I tried to do something different, something for him, and for the rest of the people around the world that are dealing with that. A lot of things over life, it gets a little hard sometimes. I think the more that we talk about it, the easier it gets for those families and parents with kids on the spectrum. And it was something that I did for my boy, I love him, and for the rest of the people, kids, adults, that are dealing with that, so people feel they are not alone."

That's really special from Hernandez, who has grown into a great player for the Dodgers after starting his career with the Toronto Blue Jays.

He's got a couple World Series rings, but this is probably the most significant thing he's worn during his big league career.
