Interesting that the media loves Sanders so much. There were SEVERAL players that were prank called but no one has mentioned that.

Tyler Warren, Kyle McCord, Mason Graham and Chase Lundt also reportedly revived prank calls

Yeah, as it was spread around quite a bit, I didn't expect the Sanders fine to be as large as it was. I guess the NFL is only really concerned about Sanders getting pranked and not so much the others...

AFAIK, Sanders' call is the only prank call that was caught on video, and all the draft coverage was closely following his drop in the draft for all three days, so naturally that's the one that got the most air time; but the NFL is investigating the other prank calls as well.

Apparently not uncommon. Happens for years. But the sanders one is the only one that involved a coaches family member.

Who do you fine if you don’t know who did it and the prank caller has no connection to the nfl? Don’t let your sanders hate make you take silly positions.

Sanders hate? LOL I just want the others that did prank calls to be discovered and penalized equally.

My algorithm seems to think I care about this

What I've learned is that apparently there are a lot of people that think a Johnny Unitas award and some stats make a college QB a lock first round prospect

I'm pretty sure most didn't know the award existed previously and are unfamiliar with the NFL draft and QB play in general

Not sure how his career will ultimately turn out, young and can still develop and has some tools

The NFL is a different best though and it's pretty clear that he wasn't ever a first round QB

Name and hype set an expectation that wasn't going to be met.

This happens - especially in weaker QB drafts - try to project that x # of teams need a QB, so if they want to secure one of the top whatever, they need to do it in the first round

Then the talking heads get going when it doesn't happen

2021 there were 5 QBs in the first 15. 2023 there were 3 in the top 5.

2022? Not a strong class and not many teams looking.

Seattle got lit up for not taking Malik Willis at 9 or trading back a little in the first round and grabbing him there - they went for a LT instead.

Then I'm the 2nd went for a RB & edge defender. Then in the 3rd went RT.

GM was diplomatic in stating that he didn't think any QB on the board upgraded what they currently had - but they still got lit up about it.

Really the only QB in that draft that you take for that chunk of time over Geno would be Brock Purdue - who went last to no outrage or fanfare.

Also no outrage about where Bailey Zappe was selected - not a name on many minds despite completing 69% of his throws for 5,867 yards with 62 TDs and 11 Ints - leading the team to a winning record and scoring almost 60 in a bowl game win

Just because someone with a good college statline doesn't go in the 1st round doesn't mean there is a great conspiracy - sometimes they don't get drafted at all - Graham Harrell anyone?

There was an Instagram reel reading off what you would assume were Shedeur's numbers but in the end were actually Gardner Minshew's numbers. He had accomplished many of the same goals and awards as Sanders, yet he was drafted in the 6th round and no one talked about it because he doesn't come from an NFL family and wasn't expected to go first round.

Exactly - I'm used to talking sports with those that have some background in sports

I read this as a sports story, while many read it as social story without any sports context

Joe Burrow won the Unitas award and had big numbers and look where he was drafted?

The award says they were the best college QB - why wouldn't you draft the best early?!?

Minshew had the same, look where he was drafted.

Max Duggan won it a couple years ago and is a battlehawk ..... Collin Klein never really played professional football and he won it

There are some great players in the mix for sure, but just an award or statline isn't the argument people think it is

Some of the biggest passing stat collectors in college had next to no pro-career ...... It's not always a conspiracy, the NFL is just a ridiculous level

Teams asking tricky interview questions isn't a target affront or attack on an individual - it's part of the process that everyone goes through

Some like to see how you respond when things get uncomfortable - I worked with a guy like that when I was in college and then first real job out of college..... Frequently questions weren't to test knowledge of the question, it was to test how you handled yourself with the question - the one out of college we'd try and warn others that it was best to admit to not knowing something or owning up to a shortfall than to finesse your way through an answer, that wasn't going to end well

Congrats. Great team to choose to support.
I'll admit I'm a front runner. Started following sports at the age of eight in 1945, when the St. Louis Cardinals were the team in the NL, having won the pennant in '42, '43, '44, and the WS in 42 and 44. And the winning continued with a WS win in 46.
And then I heard about pro football. And lo and behold there was a Cardinals FB team as well. And come 1947 they were champs and while they lost in the championship game in 1948, it was because of the snow. But, I knew that they would win the next, the next, the next........... . Something like being hooked on drugs, or so I read. But all the memories have made it all worthwhile.
