Former Red Wings coach Mike Babock isn’t back in the coaching ranks, but a son who carries his name has a head coaching job.

The Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League hired the younger Mike Babcock, 31, as their sixth head coach. He was most recently the assistant coach for the San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League.

He is the youngest coach in the Brantford’s history.

Born in Northville, the young Babcock played in Merrimack College and in France before turning his attention to coaching. He did play for the Little Caesars Hockey program and Detroit Catholic Central while growing up in Michigan.
