The Texas Longhorns rarely make any changes to their football jerseys. The UT jersey is one of the most iconic in the sport, in large part because it has remained roughly the same for the better part of a century. But a rule change by the NCAA means a tweak is coming in 2026 for the Longhorns jerseys.
When Texas joined the SEC, a patch was added just under the right shoulder on the jersey. It replaced a similar patch for the Big 12 when Texas was part of that conference. All schools display their conference in patch form on their jerseys. But the location can vary.
Some schools like Alabama and Georgia have it in the same spot as Texas. Some have a slightly smaller version that is in the center below where the V-neck forms a point.
It appears Texas is switching from the shoulder to the middle.
The move will most likely coincide with a jersey sponsorship logo that will replace the SEC patch on the shoulder.
Beginning on Aug. 1, shortly before the 2026 season kicks off, Division I programs can place commercial advertising patches on player uniforms, opening yet another revenue pipeline that could reshape the financial ecosystem of the sport.
LSU has already announced a partnership with energy company Woodside Energy, making LSU one of the first major programs to embrace the new uniform patch model. The logo will appear in school colors, integrating the purple and gold.
It seems logical Texas will follow suit, thus the switch of the conference logo to the middle. UT seems to be clearing room

Appears to be a change for the #Texas jersey for the 2026 season.
The SEC logo moves to the middle of the jersey from the right pec area.
As of now, there are no plans for Texas to add a corporate sponsor logo to the jerseys. pic.twitter.com/Bl1vaSX1kx
