National champions reside in College Station, and not all of them come from team titles. Texas A&M continues to stack individual crowns across multiple sports, and this week, the Aggies added another. Senior javelin thrower Zaza Nnamdi, who delivered a long‑awaited breakthrough on the national stage at the NCAA Track & Field Championships.

Before arriving in Aggieland, Nnamdi was already one of the nation’s most decorated throwers, a three‑time Big 12 champion and First Team All‑American whose only missing piece was an NCAA gold. His best finish had been third, but his move to Texas A&M came with purpose. This season, he quickly established himself as one of the SEC’s elites, earning SEC Field Athlete of the Week, claiming the SEC outdoor title, and landing on the prestigious Bowerman Watch List.

On Thursday, he finally claimed the one title that had eluded him.

Nnamdi opened the competition with a massive 82.26m (269‑10) throw, his very first attempt, and that mark held for the rest of the event, securing his first national championship and adding another individual crown to A&M’s growing list of 2026 standouts. With Nnamdi’s long‑awaited breakthrough, Texas A&M once again proves that national champions are built and thriving in College Station.
