Texas A&M's senior right-hander pitcher is reportedly entering the transfer portal after one season in Bryan-College Station.

According to a report from Carter Karels of On3 Sports, righty Juan Vargas is hitting the portal following his lone campaign with the Aggies in 2026. Vargas transferred to Texas A&M following his sophomore year at Tennessee Tech in 2025. He made 20 appearances, including three starts, in the Maroon and White uniform, providing some depth to a depleted and struggling Aggie bullpen.

Vargas boasted a 4.44 ERA in 26.1 innings of work on the mound, while compiling 22 strikeouts and allowing 10 walks. He recorded a season-high three punchouts in a non-conference matchup against Prairie View A&M on May 5.

The Panama native has spent most of his collegiate career in a relief role thus far. During his two years with the Golden Eagles, Vargas notched 34 appearances in relief, including eight saves and a 5-3 record. He tallied a career-high 56 strikeouts in his sophomore campaign in Cookeville, Tennessee, while holding a 3.19 ERA.

Vargas was called upon for just three relief outings at Texas A&M, including a 14-3 loss to USC in the Bryan-College Station Regional, in which he gave up three runs on seven hits and a wild pitch in just one inning. His departure from the program marks the fifth pitcher to enter the transfer portal this offseason, but the Aggies have reeled in five integral additions to the pitching rotation so far.

Texas A&M finished third in the SEC and reached the postseason in the second year under head coach Michael Earley, before being eliminated by the Trojans at Blue Bell Park.
