Former Texas A&M Aggies guard Jacari Lane is planning to enter the transfer portal, according to On3's Jamie Shaw. Lane was originally out of eligibility following the 2025-26 season, but recently received an extra year following the decision from Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado to grant the 2022 high school recruiting class an injunction to play a fifth season.
The move comes after the NCAA changed their eligibilty rules in June, allowing athletes five years to play five seasons based on a player's age. They decided not to grandfather in 2022 recruits, with several of them challenging the decision and ultimately securing the injunction.
Lane played in 33 games last season for Texas A&M, making 28 starts. He averaged 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and a team-high 3.0 assists per game. He shot 39.5% from the field, 30.3% from 3-point range, and 86.8% from the free-throw line.
He is from Huntsville, Alabama, and spent the first three years of his career at North Alabama. He averaged double figures all three years with them, but had a breakout junior season, averaging 17.3 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Head coach Bucky McMillan and the Aggies were active in the transfer portal this offseason, adding six transfers as they look to build on a great first season. Lane is set to become the fourth Texas A&M player to enter the portal over the offseason, joining guards Pop Isaacs, Ruben Dominguez, and Josh Holloway.
