If the Houston Texans are going to win on Sunday against the New England Patriots, they'll be doing so without two key offensive starters.

According to the inactive list, offensive tackle Trent Brown will not play in Sunday's divisional round game at Gillette Stadium due to an ankle injury. After testing during drills, further testing determined that he was not cleared to play in Sunday's showdown against the AFC East champions.

The longtime lineman missed both Wednesday and Thursday's practice before being listed as limited during the team's walkthroughs on Friday. Brown, who hasn't been healthy for over a month, has also dealt with a knee injury that cost him the final two games of the regular season.

In his place, second-year tackle Blake Fisher started in his place for Week 18 while Tytus Howard shifted over to right tackle for the matchup in Week 17's win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The plan could be for Howard to move over to right tackle, thus creating a space for Jarrett Patterson or Juice Scruggs to start at right guard.

Brown joins Nico Collins as part of the offensive personnel that will not start in Sunday's showdown. The Pro Bowl receiver suffered a concussion during the third quarter of the Texans' 30-6 wild-card round win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and did not practice during the week.

Wide receiver Justin Watson, who also suffered a concussion in last week's win over the Steelers, is out. Former All-Pro returner Braxton Berrios is expected to be active for Sunday's game, though his rep count could be limited.

Here's the list of Texans' inactives for Sunday's contest.

  • WR Nico Collins
  • OT Trent Brown
  • RB Jawhar Jordan
  • QB Graham Mertz
  • CB Alijah Huzzie
  • WR Justin Watson

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN and ABC.
