T.L Hanna baseball’s remarkable run in the SCHSL state playoffs ended May 28 with a 4-3 loss at Chapin in the Class 5A Division 2 final game.

Chapin (23-9) swept two games in the best-of-three, winning the opener in Anderson, 7-3, for its 12th championship and first since 2018.

T.L. Hanna (18-18) seemingly came out of nowhere and nearly won its first state title.

The Yellow Jackets finished fifth in Region 1-5A and No. 10 seed in the Upper State. They ripped off seven straight wins and then knocked off No. 1 seed Indian Land, to earn a berth in the state finals for the third time in program history, the first since 1988.

Connor Brooks pitched all six innings for T.L. Hanna, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and two walks. Felix Flecha Ruiz hit two home runs for Chapin, a two-run blast in the bottom of the first inning and a solo shot in the fourth.

Tatum Manning had a sacrifice fly and Brayden Stuart an RBI single in the first inning to give T.L. Hanna a 2-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets got an unearned run, Reece Oakley with an RBI single.
