Well I’m gonna just be in the wait and see mode. I like that he’s a young guy that if it works maybe can be around for awhile, let’s face it the past few supposed championship coaches didn’t look so great. Maybe need a little younger blood and we get lucky and hit a Spolstra like hire. If Book likes him like reported and he can get a team to buy in better than the last few coaches it could work. But we will have to wait and see, and see what the team even looks like then.

ish is asking a whole lot from ott

rookie ass green af and im just talking about our line up - the literal biggest being an 18 year old who's technically a 5 year old - then we have legit complex personalities entering the chat - most namely jalen green and dillon brooks

not to mention this team itself being a one off with zero data to go off - all of our 1 year contracts from last year are likely gonzo - and nobody's coming here to take less than what they can get elsewhere

it's gonna be rough yall and let's face it - we as a group are brutally critical of our head coaches lol we fire them way before ish does

now we'll be watching a coach learning to coach in real time with players learning to play nba ball in real time - it's gonna be messy but hopefully not infuriating - growth and effort isn't as fun as a championship run but should be better than what we've been watching

sure would like to know if ott has been involved in the roster process - the maluach pick was a no brainer but does ott want to compliment book with a pick and roll combo? or pg by committee? can he utilize jalen green if beal and book are on the team?

another thing - as it stands our roster appears to be built for defense - ott coached under some defensive minds - is ott a one system guy or switch it up?

He's an NBA coach. Why wouldn't Ishbia ask a lot from his head coach?
i went over that bro - ott isn't just taking over a team - it's a team that's never played together at all - not data to go off - not to mention 5 players in their first 2 years - 3 being rookies- one being 18 not to mention the personalities of jalen and dillon

it's a lot even for a seasoned coach - but you already know that

I'm confused why it matters? Especially when we know they aren't going to be near competing for a title next year. Having a new unseasoned coach may be just what the doctor ordered. Our last 2 seasoned coaches were disasters.

A lot of this was covered by Gregory in his post draft press conferences. Check them out. Ott was very involved with the draft and some of his plans for Maluach were laid out.

doesn't matter how maluach is developed? where or if oso is utilized? won't matter when dillon's in a mood? it's not about the record at all - that's what doesn't matter - ott on the other hand is pretty freakin crucial - everything he does matters - last 2 coaches don't matter either

The coach needs to develop as much as the player. I'm not sure what your solution would be. It appears in your eyes Ott is in a bad situation regardless. I disagree on that one.

What I'm saying I guess is that yes, he's being asked to do a lot, just like any NBA coach. I just think as of now, there's nothing to show that he can't handle it. The Suns apparently think that as well.

It's really not. The expectations aren't that high, or shouldn't be. Battle for a play-in spot and play like they care. He does need to develop the rookies but there's a lot to that outside of games with practice, formal and informal, as well as the G-League.

Its not, look at what any new coach jumps into, a new situation right? Vogel and bud did, now Ott, this is new to him too. What happens with player movement doesn't mean anything, nothing can happen and the coach would still have to develop their own plan with their staff. The closes turn key coaching job is probably the Nuggets job since he was extended, but jokic makes things easy.

The last thing a new coach needs is grumpy old vet players. We have seen that one before. Give a young coach young players and let the chemistry happen.

I think Jared Dudley would have been a good candidate for the Suns head coaching position.

Good for him, he becomes a top assistant for the Nuggets.

Surprise
I’m kind of surprised that we haven’t seen more movement on Ott’s coaching staff. The only thing I can think of is maybe we were hoping to get Mike Brown as his lead asst but had to wait until the Knicks coaching search was over. Now that the Knicks have hired Brown I wonder if we get lead asst news sooner than later.
