That’s pretty typical for a second year front court player

It's pure muscle I tell you!

Btw, I mostly use the eye test. Fleming looks in shape to me.

Now, it showed when Grayson Allen looked to be carrying some extra weight.

more than that. They say he is at 250 this year, he was around 225 last year.
They showed he weighed 195 at his rookie Summer League. I used to hand around body builders. It's hard to put on nearly 55 pounds of muscle in a year! He really was dedicated!

That weight does not help his jumping for rebounds, and he is not usually close enough to the rim to position for them. That weight does not help him switch out onto guards. That versatility is his bread and butter. All is not lost though. Usually players that put a lot of weight on in the off season, play the pounds off in the regular season.

What this team needs from Fleming right now is to be a bigger Mikal Bridges. That would be perfect for us.
He is almost like that now. He was guarding PGs in Summer League. Even with the lower level of talent, that's impressive for a guy his size. It was awesome to see Fleming taking on the point of attack, slowing the PGs down, Man Man guarding the opposing center, and Koa Peat chasing down and switching onto whoever else was a threat on offense. We have to get that into an NBA game sometime this season just to see if they can pull that off with NBA talent.

fleming was covering the lottery pick point guard in that last summer league game and fleming gave him fits - all the way up the court - fought through screens - did an outstanding job - he's still fast and still long

They were talking about that in a podcast I was listening to. Supposedly, Fleming was the only guy that slowed this guy in Summer League.

They waived it off as, "well, it was a second year guy guarding him." I was like, that's a 250 pound big staying in front of that dude!!

i think there's a clip of fleming floating around here with him saying he wants to cover all positions 1 through 5

i think defense is the priority with jordan ott

It’s impossible. There is no way he actually did that.

In one of our Summer League games this year, they showed him standing there all skinny at 195 in a photo from his first summer league, and talked about him changing his body.

Like I said, I hung around Bodybuilders, and going from 195 to 225, let's say. Those are the easier pounds to pack on. But them going from 225 to 250, you really have to work your A$$ off. It keeps getting geometrically harder, the more muscle you want to add. Plus, I am sure it's not all muscle, but he does not look fat at all.

While that’s true, how many of those body builders you hang around are 6’8? That’s a much different frame. The geometry is materially different. Just talking raw numbers is relatively meaningless. 60lbs to those of 5’11 or shorter is a total different reality than to someone 6’8. Also, his reported nba draft weight was 232. So it’s likely they just got it wrong for summer league last year.

That makes more sense. He certainly doesn't look that much bigger.

I am guessing from how he looked last year when we watched him play, the NBA draft numbers were inflated. He visibly looks way thicker than last season. When on the floor together, Fleming and Maluach look like similar builds now.

It is true what you say about his frame can accomodate weight more easily. I wasn't thinking of that. I know the power lifters I hung around said taller guys had the disadvantage on stuff like bench press because their arms were so long, it was harder to press as much as the barrel chested short guys with short arms. I was kinda thinking that angle, when thinking of how hard he had to work to put muscle on.

Fleming talks about his putting on weight, and he doesn't think it slowed him down any. Fleming feels now he can absorb contact better on offense, and it helped him making moves better.

I'd be surprised if he put on more than 25 pounds since the season ended. He really doesn't look all that much bigger to me but if it's enough for him to feel like he can bang with the big guys, then great. You can't teach size but speed kills - and I think his speed is far more important than adding much weight.
