Christopher Kline writes: "Phoenix aggressively maneuvered up the board to acquire the first pick in the second round. That lands them Rasheer Fleming of St. Joe's, an athletic 3-and-D forward with a gaping 7-foot-5 wingspan and incredible lateral agility. Between him and Khaman Maluach, Phoenix has substantially improved its defensive foundation."

Bryan Kalbrosky writes: "The Suns outbid every team by making aggressive moves to trade up to acquire the first pick of the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft, selecting St. Joseph’s forward Rasheer Fleming in the process. He is a first-round talent with a unique blend of size and shooting: Fleming was the only player in college basketball to record at least 40 dunks and 50 shots from beyond the arc, per Bart Torvik. The forward measured with a wingspan above 7-foot-5 and a standing reach above 9-foot-1 at the 2025 NBA Draft Combine."

When Fleming was interviewed it was clear he thought there was more to his game than people realize. He played point guard at Camden High School and on his AAU team. This player is going to be interesting to watch. He is like Dunn, but bigger, longer, and with a better outside shot.

From everything I’ve read from the board and his scouting report, this guy sounds like he should have been taken much higher than beginning of second round. What are the Knicks on this dude that I haven’t seen?

I think the school and the conference made him seem a little bit of a reach.

Some aren't buying his shooting from last year and lacks the ability to create are really the only knocks I've seen. Trying to temper my expectations, but certainly seems like the type of guy that should have gone in the first.

There is the eye test. You will have to watch videos for that. I always like the tankathon stats comparison. It is amazing how effective the green bubbles vs red bubbles are are predicting effectiveness. It is not 100% of course. I remember these bubblies telling me Haliburton would be a star.

Anyway. His measurement are really important. Wingspan not only makes a player effectively taller, hands going up are faster than jumping. But that same wingspan makes him wider and even lower in defense. One of the most important stats for predicting NBA effectiveness is steals, and he is pretty good there. His free throw shooting is not bad, and he is a very good rebounder. His Ortg vs Drtg is excellent.

All this has to pan out on the floor, but I would give this guy as good a chance as Dunn at succeeding in the NBA, maybe more. He is bigger, longer, and has a better outside shot.

I have only focused on Maluach. Will look at some Fleming vids tonight. All is quiet in Suns land.

IDK. I watched a couple youtube videos, one of just his defensive plays. He does remind me of a much bigger Bridges. It's just those long arms surprising guys on the dribble or passing. You can tell dudes don't think he can reach the ball. Of course NBA players are quicker. We have to see if it translates.

That's what it reminded me of as well. Bridges is long and knows how to recover- that's exactly what I see in this kid.

I'm hoping for a Bridges type of first season, where he has some growing to do, but we just let him play defense on top players every night because he has the talent on defense.

Fleming has the talent, but it's hard to know what to expect of rookies.

I'd like to see Maluach and/or Fleming turn into starters or rotation players this season.

Of course, I always hope for more because the Suns need it.

I think if you are not a corpse, most NBA centers can get 10 points just running the floor, put backs, and ally oops. I just want Maluach to get 10 boards anchor the Defense, and maybe throw in 1-2 blocks a game.

Fleming, I just want him to play good defense. He looks like he could hit a few threes a game, too. If he can play D like in college, at his size he will be money.

I got low bar expectations. But I think they could really help us as they develop.

I am especially hopeful that Khaman will be a defensive deterrent in the middle by his mere presence. Jordan Ott said something similar.

Guys were reluctant to drive the hole when Bol Bol was in and he wasn't a defensive stopper. I do agree size alone makes guys think about it more. Just want to see how he moves and thinks in summer league games to get an idea of what we are looking at. The Summer League games are also not good because guys play so wild there is no structure like an actual game. I'm looking for more about his instincts.
