I have a really, really hard time believing this. Isn't Starks the highest-paid player on this team? Isn't he the most experienced and (arguably) best player on the defense? Mac should be more honest, or the "credibility gap" might begin to show again (you know, the "we won't accept turnovers from the quarterback position on this team" one?). If Mac wants to keep his job, he should probably worry more about having Duane Starks on the field from September to late January and less about Starks missing reps in July.

I was ragging on starks in my sunday report...he is so small I think he will get injured alot...I do not think coby rhinehart is playing that well...I think renoldo hill is doing better (and I have always thought he was too slow to make the team)...come on rhett nelson..or someone!

Players with high salaries are benched all the time for missed or bad performance in this league. it would be somewhat of a surprise due to the fact that he makes 5 million per year. but definately not out of the realm of possability!
He needs to have his but in there in the months of sept, oct, and nov, as well not just january or he is doing this team no good!

If Starks can't cut it, we're screwed at CB. We've seen Renaldo Hill start, that's not pretty.
Starks never had injury issues the four years he played for the Ravens. Is it typical Cardinals luck, or what?
Sounds like Wadsworth and Jones.Originally posted by ajcardfan

I wouldnt say we are screwed I thought Renaldo did well considering the circumstances. But your right Starks would be my first choice.

Really? Please give me an example of a star player getting benched not for performance

Drew Bledsoe comes to mind. Although, granted his situation is a little different. He wasn't doing anything before he was injured in 2001 and then his replacement tore it up. But, did the all-pro QB and fan favorite in New England get his job back? No...benched.
I think there are others with a twist, too...R. Williams situation (released) in N.O., maybe some more but I can't think of them right now.
These siyuations would compare more favorably with Starks if we had a young up and comer behind him. I don't think we do...

Those situations aren't really comperable

Mac thinks Starks is not really injured, but is doggin' it because of "I'm a high-paid Vet, and I don't have work at this altitude" attitude.

I hope Jurecki is right! I wonder why Mac was irritated then??
You've heard of "the fog of war" - this thread is an example of the Fog of Reporting.
Skkorp had a gut feeling; things sounded a bit weird to me also. So rather than wait for the story to come to us, I reported what the whole scene felt like at the time.
As it turned out, it was probably the biggest non-story since Brock Marion hightailed it out of Dodge. But I'd probably post it again, because it will give you a sense of how stories develop and advance (or, as in this case, not develop at all).
Regarding Mac and Starks - I skimmed this thread and maybe you guys already posted it, but the quote that sticks in my mind was something like:
"Coby Rhinehart had a terrific day. Renaldo Hill did great today. If Duane Starks can't make it to the field, there are other people who will take his job. That's the way it is in pro football."
Those am strong words.

If Coby Rhinehart and Renaldo Hill had strong days - I'd worry more about our"depth and talent" at WR than Duane Starks. Well, at least it's better than Rhinehart and Hill looking like crap (in the words of Ouchie - see a positive)

His size was never an issue in Baltimore in regards to injuries so I dont see how size would come into play here?
Plus Hamstrings have nothing to do with size. Its conditioning!
