The feud between Stephen A. Smith and Jaylen Brown moved into uncomfortable territory on Monday, with the longtime ESPN personality firing a thinly veiled warning at the Boston Celtics star after a weekend Twitch tirade.

Brown spent Sunday night on his FCHWPO channel calling Smith "the face of clickbait media," demanding his retirement, and telling him to "get off these networks." Smith answered hours later on First Take, telling the 2024 Finals MVP he might not enjoy the kind of reporting that follows if the public exchanges keep going.

"In the end, Jaylen Brown, be careful what you wish for," Smith said. "You really want me to start reporting on that level? Locker room? How the organization might think about you? How the city may feel about you? How Jayson Tatum may or may not feel about you? Sneaker deals, endorsement deals, the list goes on and on,"

After Boston blew a 3-1 series lead and lost a Game 7 to the Philadelphia 76ers, Brown went on his stream and called the 2025-26 campaign his "favorite," a claim that puzzled observers given Jayson Tatum's injury absence and the early playoff exit. Brown was also fined $50,000 by the NBA for criticizing officiating during the same stretch.

Smith pushed back on First Take on May 7, saying Brown "needs to be quiet" unless he wants to be traded, and floated the idea that Tatum was avoiding the stream because of friction.

Brown answered on X by promising to "be quiet" the day Smith retires. Sunday's livestream was the escalation.

Brown averaged a career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists this season, The numbers explain part of why he labeled it his favorite year. They do not explain the rest.
