Former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs was prepared for the Super Bowl LX matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
Granted, the result didn't turn out the way he hoped, but deep down, he knows he was ready to compete on football's biggest stage. The Patriots had all of the momentum behind them after flipping a 4-13 record to a 14-3 run and three straight playoff victories.
Diggs led the team in receiving yards, but unfortunately for the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, they ran into arguably the best defensive team in the NFL. It was a complete offensive meltdown with Patriots quarterback Drake Maye committing three turnovers in a 29-13 loss.
Despite an incredible regular season, Diggs was held to only three catches for 37 yards.
"I was ready. So I knew I was ready. I was prepared. I just felt like I wanted to do more," Diggs said in his latest vlog. "We got out there, and it was just weird. I don't know, man. I feel like as ready as I was, I couldn't control everything. I don't know who been through that [expletive] or who been there before, but it's kind of a hard spot to be in, I think. I can't control but so much.
"...But I know I was ready, and I know I was prepared. [Expletive] didn't go my way. Took that [expletive] on the chin for real like I do all of that [expletive]. But something about that ain't gonna sit right with me."
So far, it doesn't look like Diggs will have an opportunity to run it back with the Patriots.
He was released in the offseason, and the team loaded up at wide receiver by signing Romeo Doubs in free agency and trading for three-time All-Pro wideout A.J. Brown. There have been hopes that the Patriots would explore a reunion with Diggs on a cheaper deal, but the chances of that happening seem like a long shot at this point.
Like so many before him, Diggs will have to deal with the weight of the Super Bowl loss and hope he gets one more chance to make it right.
